Returned

Now that i've recovered from acute eggnog poisoning, I can now continue on the treck (or dreck) that it is my privilege to dissemble.

More!

Four more eggnogs to try - Superbrand (the Winn-Dixie house brand),
Publix Low-Fat, Silk Soy Eggnog, and Promised Land, a new brand they're
just started selling at Publix. The Silk has that soy-milk flavor so its
really not comparable to the other nogs. It has that slightly-chalky,
faintly-licoricey flaver that soy milk naturally has. That said, it's
mild, and not too spicey or sweet. The Publix Low Fat was flavorful, a
little too sweet, and slightly less creamy than regular Publix. The
Promised Land is thin and mild and not too sweet. The Superbrand was not
too thin and was reasonably tasty. The best of this pile, we thought,
was the Superbrand and surprisingly the Publix Low Fat.

Okay, We are now eggnogged out. Time to make our ultimate eggnog, which
is pouring all the eggnogs together in one bowl and chug-a-lugging.

Nog Notes

Here's my standards for a good eggnog - a nice, thick creamy mouthfeel,
but not so thick that you feel like choking....sweet but not too
sweet.... generally the spicier the better, although a mild eggnog that
doesn't taste too much like a chemical factory rates highly with me,
also. So far, the spicier eggnogs have also been the sweeter ones, and
the milder ones had a greater possibility of having some off-flavors
verring from the creamy. Probably the Publix is best so far although I
still find it a little sweet.

Eggnog Observation

In my searches through local supermarkets, I've noticed less variety in eggnog selection than in the past. Then again, it just could be my neighborhood.

Eggnog Update

We tried three more drinks - Borden's canned eggnog, Farm Stores, and something from McArthur's called Crema du Vie, or Creme Punch. The Borden's was the thinnest, milikiest eggnog so far, mild and not too sweet with only a little aftertaste. The Farm Stores on the other hand was the thickest, almost like ice cream - also mild but with a hint of something that almost has a powdered-milk taste to it. The Crema du Vie is the darkest drink so far, almost brown in color - very sweet with noticible rum-like flavors, a reasonable 'kick' to it although non-alcoholic, much better than McArthur's regular eggnog. The Crema du Vie is the best of this bunch although I still find it too sweet - the Farm Stores is the worst, but I've always heard that Farm Stores eggnog is designed for mixing with liquor than drinking by itself, which explains its thickness (even though it has never been advertised as such, IIRC).

Preliminary South Florida Eggnog Results

We tasted 3 egg nogs so far - McArthur's, Velda, and Publix. McArthur's
was the worst of these three, thin with a off-flavor aftertaste. Velda,
if warm, also had a bit of a guar-gum hit in the back of the throat, but
it was much better when cold, which muted its aftertaste and gave it a
nice mild flavor. Publix is spicier and a bit sweeter and creamier than
the other two, but with no fake aftertaste. It's probably the best so
far, with a *cold* Velda a close second.

Staying the Coarse

Mr. Bush begs Mr. Rumsfeld into staying as Defense Secretary, possibly
because he still has the key to the men's washroom.

Thanks!

We were overwhelmed with the amount of bouquets and major appliences we
recieved on this, the six-hour anniversary of this blog. As always, we
couldn't have done it without you.

In Other Nooze...

Commerece Secretary-Appointee Carlos Gutierrez started working at Kellogg's driving a truck, and ultimately became CEO. It has not been mentioned whether or not he drove his truck over the previous CEO.

Tom Ridge quits as head of "Homeland Security", while Kweisi Mfume quits as head of "Homeboy Security". Reasons given did not include wanting to spend time with each other's family. No word yet on who'll be spending time with Tom Brokaw's family.

Bush's new cabinet may look to some like an episode of 'Sanford and Son'. In completely unrelated news, Mr. Bush ran off to Canada yesterday.

Dan Rather could be replaced by Former Unstoppable Force Ken Jennings, who, after losing on 'Jeopardy', has probably decided to take a nap. A distant relation to Peter Jennings, CBS could bank on name confusion to garner more viewers, but it's arguable that the new recruit posseses too much factual information to ever be taken seriously as a journalist.
